Balmuir House, Tarland, Aberdeenshire - Dr & Mrs P Cunningham
Having already designed and extended the client’s previous house in Aboyne we received a telephone call one day from Canada, where the client’s had been posted, asking us to “build me a castle”. After extensive thought and research this former Estate Office building came up for sale which had been a former Manse and by a “clever slight of hand” we made the Manse look like an Edwardian extension to a 16th century Tower House. The building has multiple uses, the Great Hall must double as an IT Training Room for our clients business and is also the family Dining Room and Music Room for recitals with the entire first floor of the Tower given over to the Master Suite and the Attic to additional Training Rooms and a Children’s Play area. A new kitchen was constructed facing West and the entire Manse building restored to its original Edwardian elegance.
