The clients' owned a small hill farm and qualified for a retirement house under Aberdeenshire Council Planning Policy for retiring farmers.  A site was identified on the banks of the River Gairn, a tributary of the Dee, and this low budget, zero energy house was designed utilising passive solar gain a wood burning stove and heat recovery internal ventilation system.  The concept utilizes granite and local materials and was built to a very tight budget
Contractor:  Client (a retired Civil Engineer) with assistance from local tradesmen
