The client was a very successful commercial farmer who was handing over the management of several farms to her eldest son and had acquired a redundant garage site within Coldstream with magnificent views of the Cheviot Hills over the border beyond the River Tweed.  Set in an urban location the house has a closed, private façade facing the main road with a very open feel to the private garden side exploiting the views to the South.  The concept blended the use of traditional materials with traditional Scottish aesthetics in a contemporary manner.
